five BIG months!

What a crazy five months these have been for Jonas and Simon!  New country, new language, new school, new customs.  I'm amazed with how well they've handled it.  When Roel and I made the decision to move to Belgium, we knew that it would effect the kids most of all.  We knew that it would be difficult for them to adjust to all of the changes they would be faced with, but we made this move with the health of our little family in mind.  We wanted to give them an excellent education, cleaner air and more financial stability.  We have achieved those things and so much more.

It really warms my heart to see the kids exploring the woods, eating healthy foods and not having to set foot in a car!  Going everywhere by bike has been a real pleasure for the boys.  I'm  also thrilled that we don't have access to fast food restaurants and large surplus stores.  The boys enjoy getting bread form the baker, meats from the butcher and veggies from the market or small veggie stand nearby.

School has been more challenging for Jonas than Simon.  Being thrust into third grade in an entirely language has proven to be quite a challenge, but Jonas' language skills are amazing, and he's handling it well.  First grade for Simon has been a breeze, as they are just learning to read and write here in the first grade; a task that he learned in kindergarten in Visalia.

All isn't peachy-keen though.  It's very difficult for the boys being so far away from their family and friends back home.  We all have our moments when we have to cry on each other's shoulders, but we're making it through and we're all SOOO excited about coming home for Christmas!  It will be especially meaningful this year.

It has crossed my mind a few times if we have chosen a place over people.  I've come to the conclusion that we haven't.  We haven't had to choose!  When family and friends love each other, no amount of space can take that away.  We are still together, connected by heartstrings and the stories and years we continue to share.

I look forward to sharing all of the wonderful moments with the friends and family who will read this.  And I know Jonas and Simon are looking forward to sharing their exciting lives, and AMAZING creations with all of you!
